I built the Rulebook Assistant to solve a problem we all face on the frontline: trying to find the exact rule you need, exactly when you need it, without flicking through hundreds of PDF pages.
With a career in safety-critical railway operations spanning a decade and a half, I know firsthand how vital it is to have accurate information at your fingertips. I cut my teeth on the platforms back when I was 18 years old as a Train Dispatcher, handling everything from major service disruptions to heavy crowd control during the London 2012 Olympics.
I then transitioned to driving, controlling complex depot movements and train preparations as a Shunter before progressing to the mainline as a Train Driver. Over the years, my driving experience has grown to cover a vast spectrum of the UK networkβfrom high-intensity suburban DOO commuter services to high-speed intercity routes across the East Coast Main Line.
Having worked in various operational roles across operators such as National Express, Abellio, TfL, and Arriva, I understand the strict nuances of railway compliance and the reality of applying the rulebook in the real world. Safety is at the forefront of everything I do, and I built this tool to ensure my colleagues always have the right answers safely within reach.
Rulebook Assistant is an independent, unofficial reference tool built to assist railway staff. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or maintained by any Train Operating Company (TOC), Network Rail, or the RSSB.
While every effort is made to ensure the uploaded rulebooks and documents are accurate and up-to-date, this system is provided "as is" without warranty.
CRITICAL: This tool does not supersede official documentation. Always verify safety-critical information against your current, official rulebooks and company instructions before taking action.
